  Taylor Tunes is a Tucson-based original rock, soul and Americana power trio bringing together three award-winning musicians with deep roots in Southern Arizona’s music scene. Blending rock, blues, soul, funk and roots music, the band pairs thoughtful original songwriting with tight grooves, strong vocals and the spontaneity of musicians who have spent decades performing, recording and collaborating across genres.

At the center of Taylor Tunes is Taylor Bungard, an award-winning songwriter, guitarist, bassist and vocalist whose Tucson music history includes The Tryst and Giant Blue. A founding member of The Tryst, Bungard was voted among Tucson’s top bassists during the band’s run. Taylor later spent years performing with Tucson vocalist Anna Warr and Giant Blue, and his versatility has taken him well beyond the traditional club band setting. He played guitar and bass in Arizona Onstage Productions’ Hedwig and the Angry Inch, whose live band was praised as an integral part of the production. Taylor later developed his own catalog of original music under the Taylor Tunes name. His releases include Hate Money, Model Citizen and Monsters, with songwriting that draws from classic rock, soul, blues, funk and Americana.

Troy James Martin brings decades of experience as a bassist, vocalist and session musician. A Sierra Vista native and University of Arizona graduate, Troy has been part of the Tucson music community since the 1980s and was named Best Bassist in the 2012 Tucson Area Music Awards. His extensive performance and recording résumé includes work with LeeAnne Savage, Eric Schaffer & The Other Troublemakers, Little House of Funk, The Tangelos, Max Parallax, Smallvox, The Minstrel’s Ghost, Tucson Pops Orchestra and numerous other artists and projects. Today, he is also a bassist and vocalist with Tucson blues, soul and R&B favorites The Coolers.

Behind the kit, Matthew Wineinger brings an equally eclectic musical background. Tucson born and raised, Matt began playing with local musicians while still in high school and has since performed or recorded with dozens of projects spanning rock, alternative, punk, metal, blues, boogie-woogie and contemporary music. He was the 2018 winner of Tucson’s Battle of the Beats and has performed with Harmony Punks, ANGELFOOD and Calling for Chaos, as well as touring with Waiting for Eternity and Leon Long. Matt’s work with Harmony Punks also extended into songwriting, while Waiting for Eternity has taken his playing beyond Arizona through touring and recording. He has shared the stage with acclaimed boogie-woogie artists Ricky Nye and Eric-Jan Overbeek, and his long-running Tucson performance history stretches back well over a decade.

Together, Bungard, Martin and Wineinger bring three very different musical histories into one band. Taylor Tunes is tight without being predictable, polished without losing its edge, and built around the chemistry that happens when accomplished musicians leave room for one another to play. At its heart are original songs, deep grooves and the belief that a live performance should feel alive and never the same way twice.
